All this time I thought I would be helping first-time homebuyers find that perfect place to call home. I imagined myself guiding them through the search, the loan process, and then turning over the keys and wishing them the best of luck in their new house.
Well, that’s not what happened. Instead, I received an email from a fellow realtor asking that I help one of her clients sell her condo here in Anaheim. Our joint client, B, has decided to take her nursing career to the state of Washington and start over, living close to her sister. Within a month of meeting B, she resigned from her clinic, packed all her belongings, and set off for the two day road trip to her new city and state. So instead of my first buyer, I had my first listing!
Time to call in the big guns! My brother is a general contractor and over the years has helped Marc and I renovate and update our 1970s home in Anaheim Hills. He has done the kitchen, the bathrooms, painted inside and out, replaced doors, added crown molding and casings, and just everything we ever wanted or needed to make our house our forever home. When we listed our parents’ home, our family worked as a team to bring the house up-to-date and attractive to buyers. So when B agreed to some cosmetic improvements to get her condo market ready, we got the band back together.
Day 1 brought my two brothers, my son, and even my daughter, who drove up from San Diego, running to get started on the renovations. First, the popcorn ceiling was removed, a dusty, messy job that was done quickly and efficiently. The drywall underneath was in great shape and on Day 2 new texture was added. With six days left to go, we are on schedule and on budget!
Meanwhile, Alexis and I spent our time discussing decor and ordering lunch. The best part of the day was when we set up a picnic table under a shady tree and our family had a chance to eat and catch up. I was reminded of how rewarding it is to take a home and transform it into something to be proud of. All it takes is hard work, a little cash, and a can-do attitude. However, the ability to work with my family was the best reward of all!
If you’re thinking, like B, you might want to set off for your next adventure, I can help. I’ve got my team over at First Home Ed and my brothers and crew at Horton Renovations and Painting ready to go. We’d love to be a part of your next phase.
So many good things to come,
Diana Cohen
