‘Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions.’

I’ve been an educator my entire life. When I went to first grade, I came home from school and turned my garage into my classroom. I studied Child Development as an undergrad, and then finally earned a credential.

My first year teaching was the most amazing year of my life!! I loved being in the classroom, watching my students grasp new concepts and navigate the social dynamics of collaborative groups. Seeing the growth students made between September and June never got old. I always understood teaching is a calling. It’s not something you can or want to do, it’s something you must do. Teachers bring their whole being into the classroom everyday and then give it away to their students. Our children depend on us for everything.

After 30+ years and the sudden loss of my mother, I could no longer be everything I needed to be for my students. I closed my classroom in June of 2020, wished my 5th & 6th graders a fond farewell, and looked toward the future and what it would hold. First, my family and I renovated, and sold the house we grew up in. I then helped both of my children find their new place.

I spent hours (read days) on Redfin.com looking at places for others to call home. Some scroll social media, some binge watch Netflix, for me, it’s Redfin. I eventually came to the conclusion my future is in Real Estate. I want to help people find their perfect place, and I want to work with the people I know best - teachers.

COVID-19 caused society to shine a huge, bright spotlight on the teaching profession. We were spotlighted with an amazing spoof: If we treated teachers like pro athletes, by Key and Peele, an awesome Teachers’ Day Song, by Jimmy Fallon, and Alicia Keys’ tribute, Good Job, that recognized us as essential. The accolades were well deserved!

I hope the respect and admiration continues and I want to be part of the movement that puts Educators first. My little contribution will be in helping you find a home. Come visit me over at FirstHomeEd.com and let’s get started.

All good things,

Diana
