Perseverance. You say it all day in your classroom. You ask it of your students and you ask it of yourself. You know it is truly the cornerstone to achieving goals. I mentioned my daughter in my last newsletter telling you of her and Brandon’s success in becoming homeowners. What I didn’t tell you about was the perseverance needed to make that goal a reality.
Alexis and Brandon started their home search in July of 2021. They talked to a lender, reviewed their finances and considered their loan eligibility amount. They made a budget and cut out excess spending. They put major purchases (a car for her and travel for both of them) on hold. They made a chart with three categories: Location, Amenities, and Cost, and placed their housing hopes in each. They found an agent and began to look at homes.
Each time they saw a property, they evaluated it against their criteria. Was it in the right location? Did it have the amenities they hoped for? Was it in their budget? Many times they found that the property did not align. Finally, they toured a home that fit! They got excited and wrote an offer, which was… outbid. Disappointed, they picked themselves up and looked some more. Time and time again, their offer fell short. Each time this happened, they went back to their chart and fine tuned the categories, honing in on the factors that really meant the most to them, and letting others go.
As fall and the new school year arrived, they found fewer homes on the market, but continued their search. It wasn’t until December that a home came along that matched their wishes, with a seller that actually accepted their offer. There was more to follow, but at least the search was over. They would be homeowners.
Buying a new home is challenging, but so incredibly rewarding. If you are ready to start the journey, I’d love to help you get there. Head on over to FirstHomeEd.com and let’s set up an Agent/Teacher Conference.
All good things,
Diana
