Well this was quite a week!! Wednesday dawned bright and beautiful. It was the first day that the whole crew would be at the project house. Everyone came in ready to work and work, they did!
Removing anything left in the house was a priority before the real demo could begin. I stayed out of the way by cleaning out the garage. As I was sorting tools, Christmas decor, and old motor oil, I got a call from my neighbor. Apparently my husband got himself tangled up in the power cord of our leaf blower and down he went, fracturing his hip. So it was off to the hospital!
The guys continued work on the house while Marc and I spent two days trying to figure out how he could get comfortable with a broken hip. Surgery finally took place Friday, and by Saturday morning, he was on his way home. I am amazed at the medical advances of today, and the truly dedicated health workers who helped make this unfortunate and very painful experience bearable.
Marc came home determined to be independent and by Monday morning, I was back at the project. Removal is still our number one priority. I spend my time sorting everything into piles for the different disposal methods: metal, paper, hazardous waste, recyclables, and trash. I can’t wait until everything is gone and we can start putting the house back together and making it pretty.
Lighting is one of the first decor areas to plan for. My daughter, Alexis, gave me some great advice when I was trying to purchase fixtures. Here’s what she said, “Use recessed lighting where you want light. Use a fixture where you want decor.” I thought it was such a great piece of advice. It really simplified the planning process. Not everywhere needs a new modern farmhouse fixture. Some areas of the house just need good lighting that could come from built-in recessed lighting!
I’m excited to see the progress after a full week of work with a full crew of workers. And I will share it all with you! Let me know if you need me to help with your project at FirstHomeEd.com.
So many good things to come,
Diana Cohen
