The Project Report Week 3

Words of the week are PREP & RESTORE! They are used frequently for both Marc’s recovery and the house’s renovations. Marc is preparing to get back to work in two weeks and spends his days restoring his hip and body to pre-injury form. The doctors (and me, too) are amazed at his progress. Let’s go Champ!

Our crew is also making huge strides toward restoring the house to its original glory. Time and again, I am reminded how much better a home appears when it has less in it, or on it, or around it. I’m still working on removing all the excess, and as I do, the space feels lighter. It is more welcoming and inviting.

When I’m not on trash duty, I’m working with vendors and designers. Materials are beginning to arrive and the first “Fandelier” was installed! A fandelier (for those who are unaware, like I was until this week) is a ceiling fan enclosed in a caged frame with lights attached. It looks more like a chandelier with a new age fan design that produces lots of air without the fear of the dangerous, flying fan blades of old. And although that is the only new fixture so far, more are on the way.

Three of the bedrooms have been painted and given new baseboards. Once carpet arrives and new door hardware is attached, they will be done! The bathrooms are next on the list. The rooms have been prepped and are ready for new tile, which starts this week. Jennifer Caves at Anaheim Hills Tile Supply has lent us her star installer and we can’t wait to get going!

While he’s inside working on the bathrooms, the rest of our crew is heading outside to transform the exterior with a new coat of paint. I can’t wait to see the fresh new look we’ll have. We’ve chosen a classic and simple white with black trim.

We’ve also consulted with Pamela Coffey of Next Level Home Staging & Design. She will guide us in the right direction as we are making our renovation choices, and then stage the home when it’s ready for market. Helping buyers see the different spaces and use of those spaces in the home, can make a big difference in desirability, sale price, and length of time on the market. I’m very grateful to have Pamela and her expertise in the mix.

The place is prepped and ready to be restored. More news coming your way next week. If you have any questions or a great suggestion for our project, visit me over at FirstHomeEd.com so we can chat.

So many good things to come,

Diana Cohen
